TIPS FOR BUYING MAKEUP PRODUCTS AS A BEGINNER

Disclaimer
This content is not to force or entice anyone to do what they don't do normally, I know of course that there are people who are against the usage of makeup and I totally respect the choices you have made. I will appreciate you keep your unpleasant comments to yourself and respect whatever decisions others have made for themselves, Thank you.

As an adult I can relate with the challenges of buying Make-up products for the first time, my experience as a novice was not the best, coupled with meeting cosmetics dealers who weren't interested in the well-being of the consumer, all their aim was to sell their products. If you desire to start wearing makeup but you are confused about the whole process, this post will be guiding you towards making wise decisions when it comes to buying your first set of Make-up. A lot of money goes into purchasing Make-up products in the same vein a lot of time is invested in wearing and taking it off, however, Makeup is a holy grail for most girls and this is why we don't mind investing in them but I will rather invest wisely than to waste money on things that are not my best fit. It is normal to make mistakes as a beginner but if you apply these tips I am about to share with you life becomes easier and you spend wisely a the end of the day.

GET A STORAGE

GET A STORAGE

Funny as it may sound, The first thing I will advise you do before getting your set of makeup is to get a store where you can keep your Make-up, this is to avoid finding different pieces of your makeup around the house. Your storage does not necessarily need to be expensive, even the cheapest ones will do, it could be a makeup storage box or purse but for starters, I will advise you get some purses at least four pieces so you can have your brushes in one, your powder in another, your eyeshadow in another while your lipstick, pencils and your other collections in another. With experience, I can tell that some crazy things happen and when they do, you will have a lot of mess to clean up. For instance, there are some days when your eyeshadow palette decides to break in your purse or when you leave your powder open because you are in a rush or if your younger sister or brother decides to do some experiments with your Make-up, I have been in some of the situations above and I can tell it is very messy especially when you have the body of some products stained with foundation or eyeshadow. Having your products stored in a particular place makes it easier to access and manage.

MAKE INQUIRIES

This is a very important aspect most of us skip, leaving us to make wrong choices. Before even visiting a makeup store, it is very important to first make inquiries from people who are no novice to the usage of makeup, also visit beauty consultants to further broaden your knowledge on your makeup quest, thanks to the internet you can also make inquiries from makeup gurus online. Getting professional advice for free is far better than making mistakes over and over so, take out time to talk to people who already know.
Making inquiries also covers finding out your skin tone and type, this will help you in shopping smart as you wouldn't want to end up with a foundation that is not your shade or as an oily skinned person, you wouldn't want to use a foundation made for dry or combination skinned people. Personally, I wish I knew this thing before dabbling in purchasing makeups, I would have saved a lot of resources.

WATCH MAKEUP TUTORIALS

WATCH MAKEUP TUTORIALS

One of the places where you get quality information on how to use makeup products is from YouTube, taking advantage of this information provided by content providers is a great way of starting your makeup application quest. For someone like me who had a variety of products without even knowing how to use them, I found my self-using the wrong products at the wrong places, funny right! however, I would have saved myself from making such mistakes if I had  watched some video tutorials

DON'T START WITH EXPENSIVE PRODUCTS

Depending on what your definition of expensive is, I will advise you to start with products that are cheap. For some, expensive is above $10 and cheap is below $10 while for some others expensive is above $100 and cheap is below $100, this category may increase or decrease depending on the financial capacity of the consumer.
Moving forward to what I was trying to point out, it is highly recommended to start with a cheaper product as a first timer. During the period I started applying makeup products, I was so obsessed with getting my makeup on point so I apply makeup every day and most times I have nowhere to go to, sometimes I try applying makeup on my mum and kid brother's face, coupled with me trying to emulate what I saw my friends do, this process literally ate my makeup products drastically and in turn my pocket was forced to spit out 💰. Another thing is that the quality of makeup used in one application by a novice is enough for at least three times if a professional should handle the same product. I remember back in the days I use one eyebrow pencil for two weeks while I knew people who used theirs for two months because I was  always fighting with getting an accurate eyebrow definition, this my obsession got me cleaning and cleaning my eyebrow makeup till I get what I wanted and of course, my eyebrow pencil got shorter in a little while.

My general advise for beginners is to start with the low-end product and as time passes, with more knowledge added to you, you can buy the high-end product as you will not be faced with much tendency of further practicalizing with them. I hope you get my point? Of course, you do!

CHECK OUT REVIEWS ON THE PRODUCTS YOU INTEND TO BUY

CHECK OUT REVIEWS ON THE PRODUCTS YOU INTEND TO BUY

Checking out reviews before making a purchase is really a lifesaver and a perfect way of making a wise purchase decision. Mostimes we give in to making some purchase based on what the products promise to offer and the solution they promise to solve but in most cases, we end up not getting the goodies they claim to give. You can save yourself the risk of buying the wrong products by checking out reviews. Product reviews are usually done by persons who have used the product and have decided to give their sincere and undivided thought about the product, a review can also be described as the comment sections on online stores, but this time around, you either have people complaining or praising the product. People also do product review on YouTube, you can check them out by searching, for instance you can search by clicking the search icon and type in review on Maybelline Fit me 330, of course, you can search for other products you need information on, once you click search, you will find different videos either dissing or praising the product. The number of people that like the product shows that the product is a wise investment, on the other hand, the number of people that criticize the product shows it is a no go area. You can also check out online stores like Amazon, eBay e.t.c for reviews on products by searching for the product your choice, once the product's page is opened, scroll down to check reviews.

YOU DONT NEED EVERY MAKEUP

There are lots of make-up out there to serve different purposes but not all are meant for you, in making your purchase stick firmly to what you need not what you see, this will make you save some extra coins. In my case I found myself buying an eyelashes installer when I didn't have any false eyelashes till two years later, I had so much eyeshadow palettes that I didn't know when they went missing. Looking back at my mistake... I smh.
The best way to go shopping should be based on the information you have gathered and what you want. Find out from yourself what your go-to makeup will be, heavy or light makeup, whatever you answer is should guide you on what and what you need by the way a go-to makeup look means the makeup look you will rock tirelessly, I mean every now and then. When you have successfully answered this question, making your purchase will be less complicated as you will know that not all kinds of eyeshadows palette or lipsticks should be found in your kits.

MAKE PROVISION ON HOW TO TAKE YOUR MAKE-UP OFF

This is one thing I did last as a new makeup user but it has to be one of the first things you must make provision for. In my case, I didn't think of makeup remover till at night when I had to sleep and my mum asked: " Are you going to bed this way?" That was the time I realized I f*cked up. Thanks to my mum who had makeup remover, I would have washed my face not knowing water and soap were not enough to get the products off my face and that at a long run, the building up of this product can cause damages on my face.
I agree with Dimma Umeh when she said The same effort put into applying makeup should be invested in taking it out.

Never make the mistake of playing lazy when it comes to taking your makeup off. You should also invest in getting facial care kits to help keep your natural skin on point.

MAKE YOUR PURCHASES FROM SPECIALIZED DEALERS

MAKE YOUR PURCHASES FROM SPECIALIZED DEALERS

Depending on the country you reside and how the issue of imitation is handled, I will advise you get your products from a specialized dealer, in other to reduce your chances of getting a fake product.

If you are a Mary Kay, Mac, Maybelline, Zaron, Classic or Tara products lover, it is best to visit there designated stores to make your purchase and if you don't have any of this stores around you, buying online or asking people who are closer to those areas to make the purchase for you is not a bad Idea.

BLENDING IS KEY

BLENDING IS KEY

The power of blending your makeup properly cannot be overemphasized as a well-blended makeup has a great way of spicing up your overall makeup look. In order to make blending easier, it is advisable to use a little product at a time as it helps in making your blending work easier. Blending when it relates to make-up is your ability to massage your products especially foundation and concealer till they marry your skin without being too obvious or without forming any strange effect on your face.

GET STARTED EARLIER

As a new makeup user, we tend to spend too much time in getting a full face beat, it's not a bad thing as over time you will improve but for the main time it is advisable to wake-up at least two hours before your appointment, else you will always get late as a result of wasting too much time on getting ready.

I hope this was helpful if so drop me a comment and also, if you have more tips on how to help beginners from making mistakes in their makeup quest, please let us know in the comment below as this will make my day.

  6. These are amazing tips. Especially liked the one where you say you don't need every make-up. One mistake I have seen people make is not realising that make-up also expires like other products and we need to throw them in time!

  7. I agree and I think younger girls and young women should not start with prestige makeup and they also do not need to buy every colorful palette they may entice them. Makeup tutorials are a great way to build up your skill set.
